Opening a shared recording

When someone sends you an AudioWitness recording, they share a link. What happens when you open that link depends on your device:

• If you have AudioWitness installed, the link opens the recording in the app, so you can play it, see its tags, and view where it was made on a map.
• If you do not have AudioWitness installed, the recording plays in your web browser instead. You do not need the app to listen to a recording someone has shared with you.

Either way, the recording travels directly from the sender's device or their own Google Drive to you. It does not pass through any AudioWitness server — there are none.

Recording playback

Recordings are standard audio files (AAC / M4A). They will play in the AudioWitness app, in a browser, or in any standard audio player.
