Your data stays yours. AudioWitness has no servers, no databases, no analytics, and no tracking. Recordings live only on your device and — if you choose — in your own Google Drive. We never see them.
What it does
Triple-press your power button and AudioWitness starts recording audio — without opening the app, lighting up your screen, or making a sound. Triple-press again to stop. A quiet vibration confirms each action. That is the whole interaction.
It is built for moments when you need an accurate record of what happened but can't safely hold a phone to make one. People reach for it in personal safety situations, disputes, confrontations, and harassment. AudioWitness does not call for help, alert anyone, or intervene — it is not an alarm or a protection service. What it does is make the record, discreetly, so you have it afterward.
How it works
- Triple-press the power button to start recording — the screen stays off
- Triple-press again to stop — a short vibration confirms each action
- Recordings are timestamped and location-stamped automatically
- Each recording is backed up to your own Google Drive (optional)
- Recordings can be sent automatically to a trusted contact by SMS
- Review recordings in the built-in player, tag key moments, and see where each was made on a map
Privacy
AudioWitness collects nothing about you. Everything stays on your device and, only if you choose, in your own Google Drive — where the app can see only the files it creates, nothing else. When a recording is shared, it travels directly from your device to your trusted contact. It never passes through us.
What AudioWitness is not
It is not a personal alarm, a panic button, or an emergency service — it does not contact anyone for help or intervene in any way. It is not a hidden spy tool or a secret call recorder. It records your own surroundings, on your own device, by your own deliberate action. Record responsibly and in line with the laws that apply where you are — recording consent laws vary by country and state.
